The 2017 UWA Blues Awards took place on Friday 3 November, with a mixture of current UWA student athletes recognised alongside previous recipients.
The Blues has a rich history, with Full Blue and Half Blues awarded by the Sports Council to UWA student athletes since 1921.
These awards are considered the highest honour the University bestows upon outstanding student athletes, not only for their athletic abilities, but their contributions to the university and their respective clubs throughout the year.
Blues in attendance included former Kookaburra Ric Charlesworth, who received his Full Blue in 1973, and former WA Netball captain Elsma Merillo, the 1969 UWA Sportstar of the Year.
MC Mick Colliss led a Q&A with 2017 Blues recipient and UWA student athlete Stephen Clough, who spoke about the world of the modern athlete and the quality of the UWA Sport Student Athlete Development Program.
Sports Council President Alexander Robinson and Sports Council Secretary Olivia Pisano awarded 2016 Blues badges and 2017 Blues plaques to the latest group of athletes to be inducted into the longstanding tradition.
