England’s Ashes warm up will be underway this weekend against a baby-faced WA XI at the WACA Ground. With the senior squad traveling to Hurstville Oval with Sheffield Shield commitments, it is up to a young and inexperienced line up to put the pressure on England in the tour match.

Only two players in the WA squad have Shield experience- captain Nathan Coulter-Nile and UWA student athlete Will Bosisto .

England’s Test line-up is far from settled, meaning extra importance will be placed on the tour games.

It is also an opportunity for the WA players to prove their worth, and push their names forward for state and national contention.

Bosisto is enjoying a strong start to the season, captaining both the University Cricket Club and WA Future Leagues team in their opening matches. He also travelled with the WA senior team to Sydney for the JLT One Day Cup.

England paceman Steven Finn insists that despite the inexperience of the WA squad, the match will still prove a challenge. “Even if we were playing a grade team, they would be baying for our blood when it comes to playing this first game.”

England will move on to play the Cricket Australia XI in their next tour match, whilst WA will continue their Sheffield Shield assault, after securing the One Day trophy.

Despite the strength of the WA team, Australian call-ups could open up space for the all-rounder Bosisto to get a taste of Shield action before the end of the summer.
