The School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering would like to congratulate James Fletcher and his supervisors Professor Tyrone Fernando and Professor Herbert Iu, for being selected as a finalist in the 26th WAITTA INCITE Awards in the Best Tertiary Student Project of the Year category.

On Friday 7 April the 'Innovation Excellence' Lunch Forum was held at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre. The Hon Dave Kelly MLA, Minister for Water; Fisheries; Forestry; Innovation and ICT; Science, provided the opening address and presented certificates to the 26th WAITTA INCITE Awards Finalists .

James is a PhD student working with UWA's Power and Clean Energy Research Group (PACE) .  His project is titled 'Stand -alone Distributed Generation for Rural Areas (SDGRA)'.  Through this research James has created a computational tool to identify rural customers that are optimally supplied electricity via distributed generation, to assist electrical network utilities during a transformative industry period. He reports 'the tool utilises artificial intelligence techniques, pathing algorithms and power models, and incorporates numerous databases to produce both numerical and visual results'.
