The Australian Women’s Water Polo Team, the Aussie Stingers, have named their squad for the upcoming camp to be held 25-31 October at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

As the domestic water polo season kicks into full gear, representative players also have their sights set on the next international season.

Two UWA-linked players have been called into the squad, joining two other Western Australians in the 22 person squad.

Western Australian goalkeeper and UWA student Lillian Hedges has become a regular feature of the Stingers team in recent years, and was a part of the Olympic squad last year. The 23 year old has previously represented UWA at the World University Games, and currently plays for Fremantle Marlins.

UWA City Beach’s Danya O’Leary is also in the Stingers squad, following her strong play with the UWA Torpedoes over the past year. The 20 year old, who plays as a driver, has been playing water polo since she was 12.

Head Coach Sakis Kechagias said he is looking forward to preparing for the 2018 international season.

“We have a lot of work to do coming out of the 2017 season,” Kechagias said. “Our first Tournament will be the World League Intercontinental Tournament in Auckland in early April.”

“The camp will be a great opportunity not only for the senior players, but some of our B2000 squad members who will have the chance to learn from their peers and experience a senior camp environment.”
