The Reid Library’s ground-floor refurbishment project has scooped the People’s Choice category in the Shaw Contract Design Awards—a global awards program.

After competing against world-wide design talent—initially there were 497 entries from across 32 countries—the ground-floor Reid Library project has been recognised for its design thought and overall user experience design.

The refurbishment, which was designed by Schin Architects, involved bringing the outdated building into a contemporary, light, and multi-use purpose collaborative facility.

The transformation of the library’s ground-floor has not only been successful globally, but has also turned the library into one of the busiest locations on campus with visitor numbers increasing by 75 per cent.

Since its completion the Reid Library has recieved a highly commended in the Australian Library Design Awards, a commendation in the Australian Institute of Architects Awards, and this prestigious international award.

A masterplan for further future development of the Reid Library is currently in planning.
