It was another warm day on the Gold Coast where Team UWA again took to the sporting stage.
Indoor, our 10-pin bowling team had a win and a loss, going down to reigning champs RMIT but winning against University of Adelaide 5-2. Table tennis continues to display great team spirit and managed a win against La Trobe.
In the day’s fencing, WA’s highest ranked women’s epeeist Alanah MacLaurin placed fourth in a hotly-contested semi final, while Shaun Lim placed in the top 16 for men’s individual sabre.
At the athletics field, there was fantastic atmosphere around the track. Ruan van Rooyen placed fourth in the decathlon, with impressive performances in the 1500m and pole vault.
Athletics team captain Joe Turner narrowly missed out on bronze in the steeplechase, but Jessie Knox found a personal best in shot-put with 6.94m. Mr Turner said the team was looking forward to seeing Jesse Hunt compete in the men’s 1500m final and Katherine Sparrow take on the 100m and 400m hurdle finals.
“I’m really proud of the whole team, they’re definitely getting around each other which is great to see,” he said.
