UWA Torpedoes’ George Ford has made the move to Croatia after being signed by VK Primorje in the seaside town of Rijeka.

George, who competed in the Olympics, is a centre-back and comes in to the VK Primorje team to replace an injured player. His current contract, which includes a salary and an apartment, will end in mid-April.

VK Primorje is a strong team in the Croatian First League, finishing either champion or runner up between 2010 and 2016. Captain Ivan Buljubašić is an Olympic gold medallist, and was a part of the Croatian team which won the recent FINA World Championships in Budapest.

Meanwhile George was a part of the Aussie Sharks Men’s team that made it to the quarter-finals, only to be denied by Olympic Champions Serbia 15-5. As the competition finished, Australia landed in the top half of the teams, coming out ranked 7th.

This was the best result for the team since 2003, and particularly impressive considering the relative inexperience of the squad.

Alongside George in the Australian team were members of the UWA Torpedoes, Tim Putt and George’s brother Andrew Ford . The UWA Torpedoes recently finished fourth in the National Water Polo League.
