This weekend sees the finals of the men’s and women’s Premier 1 hockey leagues. After a strong competition since March, the places have been decided and the teams ready for their Grand Final matches.

The round robin format saw success for UWA in the men’s competition, finishing top of the table, whilst the women’s team finished seventh. UWA men’s team will now compete against Wesley South Perth Hockey Club (Wasps) in the final.

The women’s final will be played between the Wasps and Victoria Park Xavier Hockey Club, with UWA student Georgia Wilson featuring for Vic Park.

This follows after Georgia, who is a participant in the UWA Sport Student Athlete Development Program, took out the Rechelle Hawkes Youth Player of the Year Award at Hockey WA’s Annual Dinner on Wednesday night.

Georgia, who debuted for the Hockeyroos in mid-June this year, is currently studying a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Marketing with a completion date set for the end of 2018.

She has proved one of the game’s rising stars, and heads into Saturday’s Grand Final a participant in the Hockey Australia High Performance Program.
