A celebration for UWA’s high achieving health and medical students was held on Wednesday, 9 August, with the Faculty Prize Ceremony Breakfast. Professor Sean Hood welcomed all guests which included the student winners, prize donors, alumni and Faculty academics.

The prize ceremony is a great way to recognise top performing students and connect them to alumni and prize donors. Without the generosity of our many donors, the Prize Winners’ Ceremony would not be possible. Every gift we receive makes a huge difference to our students and enables UWA to acknowledge in a tangible way their fine academic achievements. The gift creates a bond between our prize winners and our alumni and supporters that is very special.

UWA Alumni, Dr Julian Boo, provided insights into what students can expect after completing their studies and weighed heavily on the importance of making the most of their time at UWA.

Current third year Medical student, Jasmin Sekhon, spoke to guests about the diversity of a UWA degree and the opportunities it has created for her. She touched on her internship with the Tobacco Free Initiative Team at WHO HQ in Geneva, Chair of Interhealth – the global health arm of WAMSS and National project manager of Crossing Borders for Health – a network of medical students who aim to help remove barriers to healthcare for refuges and people seeking asylum.
