The FINA World Junior Swimming Championships will finish today after its start in Indianapolis on 23 August. The Australian team currently holds 4 bronze medals, whilst the home nation USA leads the tally with 22 medals across all competitions.

UWA West Coast swimming starlet Jemima Horwood showed great potential as part of the Australia 4x100m women’s Freestyle relay team, helping them to a respectable 5th placing in the final. Jemima's 55.17 split managed to repeat her time from the morning heat, leaving her with the fastest 100m free split of any of the Australian girls this week.

As well as competing in the women’s relay, Jemima was also instrumental in Australia’s bronze medal in the mixed relay, as they fell just 1.92 seconds short of the eventual winners, Canada.

The UWA West Coast Swimming Club member, who has been swimming since she was 11, made her first Australian Age Swimming Championships final in Adelaide in 2016.

Now 15, Jemima sees the FINA Junior Championships as the perfect platform to start building towards Tokyo 2020. She follows in the footsteps of recent UWA West Coast athletes Brianna Throssell and Zac Incerti in gaining international recognition under the Green and Gold.
