The final games of the regular home/away season saw victories for both the A Grade and A Colts UWA Football sides, and led to strong table finishes.

The Uni A Grade finished with a spirited 15 point win over top side North Beach at McGillivray Oval. The team were keen to bounce back after a poor performance last week and the improved effort and energy from all players was evident from the first bounce.

The win was a welcome return to form for Uni leading into their finals campaign. Despite the victory, Uni dropped from 2nd to 3rd on the ladder due to a significant gain in percentage by CBC in their win over bottom-placed Whitfords.

As a result, the team’s final against CBC will be played at Morris Buzzacott Reserve, with the winner advancing to meet North Beach and the loser facing either Scarborough or Trinity Aquinas.

The A Colts went into their last regular game against also against a North Beach side with a simple equation; win and we finish on top; lose and we finish second. The two teams have had some cracking games over the past five seasons including playing against each other in the past three grand finals.

With a final score of 71 to 12 in favour of the Colts, it would have been a long time since North Beach were kept to one goal for the game and it was a mighty performance by the UWA boys throughout the entire game in probably our best performance of the year.

The result led to the Colts claiming the minor premiership for the 5th year running, leaving them in a really good space to improve on their second place finish last season. If they can continue to work hard and put in the effort and play as a team they will have a good finals series and there is no reason they can’t win the flag this year based on this performance.
