Three Western Australian paddlers recently competed at the Junior and U23 World Championships in Romania.

Shannon Reynolds and Yale Steinepreis formed part of Australia’s U23 team, whilst Monique Carbone made her representative debut in the Australian Junior team. Yale Steinepreis is a UWA Student and participant in the Student Athlete Development Program.

Reynolds and Steinepreis were members of the women’s K4 500 crew, which fell just one place shy of qualifying for an A-Final.

Joined by Brianna Massie and Francesca Kidd, the Australian K4 finished fourth in their semi-final, less than a fifth of a second behind third place New Zealand and a spot in the medal round.

The gold medal was eventually won by Hungary, ahead of Germany and Russia.

Steinepreis and Massie teamed in the K2 500, finishing sixth in their semi-final, whilst Reynolds recorded an eighth place finish in the B-Final of the K1 200.

Australia won three medals at the U23 Championships with Alyssa Bull’s gold in the K1 1000 final highlighting the green and gold charge.

Carbone contested the K1 200 at the Junior Championships, earning passage to the semi-finals, before ending her campaign with a seventh place paddle, which missed the top 18.

Senior athlete Jaime Roberts is currently finalising her preparations for the ICF Sprint Canoe World Championships which will be staged in Racice, Czech Republic from August 23-27.
