The AMEB (WA) sponsors the Perth Speech and Drama Festival every year, and has done so almost since its inception. The Festival is run by the Speech and Drama Teachers’ Association of WA and has just celebrated its 21st birthday. It is open to all students of the Association’s members and attracts about 500-600 entries annually, from year 3 to Open level. The AMEB sponsorship helps with financing the prizes given to the entrants.

One of the Blue Ribbon events is the Year 12 Monologue which is a highly sought after trophy which also comes with $250 cash. The winner in 2017 was Leif Logie, a student (and grandson) of Dr Lea Logie, a long-time AMEB teacher, examiner and SDTAWA’s Representative on the AMEB Advisory Council.  Pictured with Leif, to the left, is Mrs Karen Goddard, Deputy Chair of AMEB (WA) and to the right, Ms Julia Moody, Head of Voice at WAAPA and SDTAWA’s Patron, who was the adjudicator for this event.
