UWA Library is engaging in new global initiatives to provide open access publishing support and options for UWA researchers to maximise the benefits of research by increasing its visibility, accessibility and discovery.

UWA Library is a founding partner of Knowledge Unlatched , a crowdfunding initiative providing open access to humanities and social sciences books and journals to readers across the world. Recent figures have shown that titles made available through Knowledge Unlatched have a vast reach with titles published in 2014 having been downloaded on average around 3,000 times. If you are interested in finding out more about how your book can be considered for a future Knowledge Unlatched collection, you can find details on their For Authors page.

UWA Library also supports Open Book Publishers , a non-profit publisher providing openly available online editions of academics books. As a result of the Library’s membership, UWA staff and students currently have access to over 80 titles as well as being able to benefit from substantial discounts on print versions of titles purchased from their webpage. The OBP Information for Authors page provides more information if you are interested in exploring open access book publishing further.

Reduced Author Processing Charges (APCs) for open access journal articles are also available through the Library’s memberships and agreements with BioMed Central, SpringerOpen and Chemistry Central , Nucleic Acids Research and Royal Society of Chemistry journals . For more information refer to the Library’s Open Access Toolkit or contact your Faculty Library Manager .
