The University of Western Australia has a continual roll call of awards, scholarships and prizes presented to staff and students.

To recognise these achievements, a monthly article is published on the UWA news page on the website and in UWA Forward on the first week of every month. If you know of any great awards or achievements across the University please email [email protected] .

Awards and achievements:

Name: Dr James Fitzpatrick
Achievement: Winner of the ‘Professions Award’ category in the Western Australian of the Year Awards. Dr Fitzpatrick is a leading UWA researcher and health service innovator based at the Telethon Kids Institute. He is best known for his ground-breaking research into Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Name: UWA Student Guild
Achievement: Winner of Best Building or Refurbishment over $1million at the Tertiary Access Group (TAG) Awards for the UWA Student Guild’s Club Collaborative Zone (CCZ). The CCZ is just one of many spaces the Guild has reviewed and refreshed in recent years as part of its capital works strategy. The space was designed by Hames Sharley in collaboration with the UWA Student Guild Council and staff.

Name: UWA medical students
Achievement: UWA medical students were winners in the recent Western Australian Medical Students Society Photo Competition (WAMSS) and Alan Charters Elective Travel Presentation Awards. These awards encourage medical students to share images and presentations of their experiences on their elective travel placements, an integral component of their medical degree.

Prize winners of WAMSS (supported by Smith Coffey) included Priya Sladden and Katie Leiter. Winners of the Alan Charters Elective Travel Presentation Award included Bonnie Tysoe and runners-up (supported by Dr Cathy O’Donovan) Alexander Shivarev and Raymond Chester-Wallis.
