Western Australian swimmers Nicholas Brown and Alex Milligan have been selected for the 2017 World University Games in Taipei City, Taiwan.

The University of Western Australia students are members of Australia’s 19-strong swim squad and earned selection following successful campaigns at the recent Australian Swimming Championships in Brisbane.

Brown – who is a product of the Western Sprint club – and Milligan from the UWA West Coast club will be joined on tour by WAIS coach Bud McAllister.

At 21 years of age, Brown picked up a bronze medal in the final of the men’s 200m fly in Brisbane and has also previously represented Australia at Youth Olympic level.

Milligan who trains under Michael Palfery enjoyed a strong campaign at Nationals, qualifying for the final of the men’s 200m breaststroke, finishing in fourth place.

In 2016, Milligan was selected for the Australian Junior Pan Pacs team. His University Games appearance in 2017, will add to a Challenge Podium Performance Centre representative list – that includes Zac Incerti and Brianna Throssell, who are preparing to swim for Australian at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest.

The Australian University Games swim team features eight men and 11 women, with Rohan Taylor listed as head coach and Lana McCloughan selected as team leader.

The World University Games run from August 19-30.
