The 2017 Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships is in full swing at the Brisbane City Aquatic Centre, running Sunday 9th to Thursday 13 April. The Australian Open Champs will see the best of the best in Australian swimming along the next generation of rising stars swim for a shot at selection onto the World Championship teams.

The first two days of competition have seen a crop of great performances from UWA West Coast swimmers competing at the event.

Blair Evans (UWA West Coast) proved she is in fighting form, qualifying fastest in the morning heats; she swam 4:41.46 in the final to retain her national women’s 400m IM title.

Hadley Lindsay (UWA West Coast) PB'd her 100m Breaststroke, finishing just outside the qualifying time for the 'B' Final.

UWA West Coasts Brianna Throssell went into last night’s 100m butterfly final seeded second fastest, only to be pipped at the post by Emma McKeon who comfortably took her third straight national title in 57.27, ahead of Brianna (UWA West Coast) 58.83 and Jemma Schlicht (USC Spartans) 59.08.

Alex Milligan & Lenny Bremer (UWA West Coast) both qualified for the 200m Breaststroke final, joined by a 3rd WA swimmer in George Harley. (Breakers) Milligan took out fourth place, with Bremer coming in seventh.

Fellow club members Chris Paunich and Zac Incerti both swam personal bests in the 200m freestyle, with Zac securing a spot in the 'B' Final.

UWA Alumni and UWA Sport Bursary recipient Holly Barrat , was the other success story out of the pools tonight, qualifying sixth fastest in the 100m backstroke final, becoming the first swimmer to be selected for the 2017 FINA World Championships, her first major Australian team qualification at 29 years of age.
