The Mooloolaba ITU Triathlon World Cup is fast approaching, and will see the world's best ITU triathletes descend on the Sunshine Coast for a weekend of fast-paced action!
UWA Student and UWA Triathlon club member Jonathon Sammut has successfully qualified to represent Australia at the event, which will be a qualifying event for the U23 World Championships later this year.
“To qualify for the event is an achievement in itself with application to the elite selection committee necessary to gain a world cup start.” - Student-Athlete Development Manager Sue Gliddon
Part of the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival, (which this year celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary) the competition sees participants complete a 1500m swim followed by a 40km draft legal bike ride, and finishes with a 10km run along the scenic Queensland coast line.
Jonathon will also be competing at the Devonport OTU Oceania Championships in Tasmania the following weekend, which represents a second opportunity for him to qualify for the team representing Australia at the World Championships.
