After going Down to Mongolia in a semi-final show down, in the last day of pool rounds, Team Australia (Team UWA) has finished up in sixth place at the 2016 FISU World 3x3 Basketball University Championships.
The final day of competition saw teams play off for the coveted championship, with France taking out both the men’s and women’s championships for 2016. The men’s competition saw Mongolia and Lebanon finishing in second and third place respectively, and Chinese Taipei and Hungary taking out the second and third place in the women’s competition.
Special mentions are in order for Team UWAs Jake Cannel and Jackson Simkovich who took out second and third place in the Slam Dunk Competition - Check out Instagram to see them in action!
Speaking with UWA Sports Andrew Obrien who lead the team to China, "It was a great experience for all of us on the international stage, and our congratulations go to the French National team who represented by Bordeaux University and took out both the Men’s and Women’s division titles, which was an amazing feat."
That wraps up the week for the Australian boys from Team UWA, and the third edition of the 3x3 World Uni Champs. We look forward to the next chapter of UWA students representing both their country and the Uni on the world stage!
