After a gold winning performance at the 2016 Australian University Championships, The University of Western Australia’s men’s basketball team have been invited by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to represent Australia at the 2016 FISU World University 3x3 Basketball Championships held in Xiamen from the 21– 24November

The championships represent an opportunity for Australia to look at a transition across to the Asia/ Oceania region of FISU, expanding the prospects for Australian university sports involvement in the Asian Regional Championships moving forward.

Ian Fitzpatrick, General Manager, UWA Sport said “Our support of this competition will hopefully expand opportunities for future UWA champion teams to compete in high-performance events in the Asia-Pacific Region.”

The team will be led by UWA Sports staff member Andrew O’Brien whose experience in club and team sport at the university sees him well positioned to take on the challenge.

UWA Students Christian Bonnar, Jake (Thomas) Cannell and James Mallal join Jackson Simkovic in reprising their roles from this year's games which culminated in the opportunity to compete in the Championships later this month.
