At last week’s 2016 UWA Sport Awards – held at Perth Arena, the university presented the 2016 Sport Star of the Year Award to UWA West Coast Swim Club member, Alex Milligan.

First presented in 1957, more than 50 students have received this award, and gone on to do great things.

Holding several number one state and national rankings, Alex was an individual finalist at the Olympic selection trials for 2016, a member of the Australia Team for the Junior Pan Pacific Championship in Hawaii, USA, and selected on the 2016 NextGEN AUS Commonwealth Games Swimming Squad.

A three-time gold medal winning 4x100 relay racer, state champion in the 200 and 400m individual medleys and the 200m breastroke, Alex also won a bronze medalist in the 100m breastroke earlier in the year.

A strong contributor to UWAs Australian University Games win, Alex took gold the 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, and a bronze in the 100m breastroke, also competing in the gold medal winning 4 x100 relay team, and earning a silver and bronze respectively in the 4x50m freestyle relay and 100m Breastroke to top of a successful AUG campaign.

Congratulations Alex, you’ve has well and truly earned your place as Sportsman of the year.
