BEING sore is nothing new for WA swimmer Blair Evans.

After all, the dual Olympian has spent most of her life competing and training at an elite level. But a post-Rio stint modelling for Funkita Swimwear, including a shoot in Queensland, has introduced her to a different kind of workout.“I’ve woken up this morning so incredibly sore,” Evans said. “My calves, my arms — everything hurts.

“People say models don’t have a hard job, but they probably have one of the hardest jobs physically.

“It’s kind of like a gym session. You have to stand on your toes, be in and out of the water, doing all sorts of poses that you have to hold for a really long time.

“I’m definitely a fish out of water when it comes to modelling, but it’s so much fun.”

While Evans remains unsure about a modelling career when she retires from swimming — “I just love food too much,” she says — the London silver medallist isn’t planning on starting her post-sporting life just yet.

The 25-year-old is eyeing a berth at 2018’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games to help overcome the disappointment of an underwhelming Rio performance that ended in the heats of the 400m individual medley.

Evans said it had taken her a while to “come down” from the Olympic experience.

“You spend so many hours in the pool, in the gym, on the physio table, all to prepare for this one fleeting moment that you have to make your mark on the world,” she said.

“When it doesn’t go to plan, it’s heartbreaking. Obviously, my swim wasn’t anywhere near what I thought it was going to be, and I had a really tough time dealing with that fact.

“But at the end of the day, I made it to my second Olympics, and that’s something I can be really proud of after dealing with injury and a few let-downs along the way.”
