Early Kimberley Explorers and Settlements


The talk will retrace the expeditions of the early explorers such as George Grey, Alexander Forrest and Joseph Bradshaw and the remote settlements which were promoted as a result of their reports.


About the Speaker


Hamish McGlashan read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and subsequently qualified in medicine at The London Hospital. After working in England, Tanzania, South Africa and Kenya, he came to WA with his family in 1973. After working as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the northern suburbs he moved to the Kimberley region before retiring. He has participated in many back packing expeditions in the Kimberley, tracing the routes of the early explorers and looking for Aboriginal rock art. He is a past president of the Kimberley Society of Perth and co-editor of the Kimberley Society's book "Kimberley History ".
