Dr Nita Sodhi-Berry (along with colleagues) has been successful in the inaugural round of the Cancer Council WA Collaborative Grant Scheme for early – mid-career researchers.

Nita’s grant will enable the establishment of  a contemporary Australia-wide cohort of asbestos removalists (the only currently at-risk group for asbestos-related diseases by virtue of their work).

Studies on the cohort will allow the identification of factors influencing asbestos exposure levels during its removal, associated health risks, identifying opportunities for interventions for risk reduction, ascertaining adequacy of current regulatory practices, and potentially identifying a ‘safe’ level of asbestos exposure relevant for DIY home renovators and the larger community.

A very important area of research. Congratulations Nita!
