The University of Western Australian has launched their 2016 Australian University Games campaign in spectacular style. The team consisting of 540 athletes is looking to win the Australian University Sports Overall Champions trophy come Friday.

Basketball men started bright and early with a win against the University of South Australia. Soccer women followed up with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the University of Notre Dame who scored in the dying minutes to even the score.

Softball men and women took home a win, with our women's team beating the 2015 silver medalists. Ultimate Frisbee took 2 from 2, with our women taking back bragging rights against UNSW.

Hockey men won their first match 4-1. Water Polo women and men played very well and had big wins against Deakin and ACU, and Beach Volleyball men and women went undefeated on the first day of play at Scarborough beach.

The teams will continue in pool rounds for the next two days, looking to consolidate a strong position coming into finals in the latter days of the week.
