EECE and OBEL PhD Student, Philip Wijesinghe, is part of the winning team for the Shark Solutions Prize at GovHack Hackerspace 2016 in Perth.
The winning team, Schrodinger’s Shark, demonstrated a concept for spatially mapping the risk factors for local shark activity across the entire coast of Western Australia using an easily accessible app interface for the public and detailed prediction data for research and government agencies.
The Shark Solutions Prize is supported by the Department of Fisheries for the solution which best provides a public safety outcome for shark mitigation for Western Australia’s water users.
EECE would like to congratulate Philip Wijesinghe of the OBEL Research Group and the rest of the Schrodinger’s Shark team in taking first place for developing a web-app concept for predictive mapping of shark activity along the coast of WA.
