UWA is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $599,500 for funding 12 student mobility projects, under the New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Program.  Additionally, UWA was awarded $78,100 for the second year of its two NCP 2016 round multi-year projects.

The NCP is an initiative of the Australian Government.   It aims to increase knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region within Australia.  The NCP Mobility Program provides funding to Australian universities and consortia to support Australian undergraduate students to participate in semester-based or short-term study in 38 host locations across the Indo-Pacific.

UWA has been involved with the NCP since 2015 and for that round it was awarded $247,800 for six mobility projects.  Since then, UWA was successfully awarded $434,500 for 10 NCP mobility projects in the 2016 round, culminating with it now being awarded $677,600 for 14 mobility projects (for up to 176 students) in the recent 2017 round.

The UWA-hosted Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) has also been awarded funding of $1.9 million through the NCP.

The funding awarded to ACICIS will provide 371 mobility grants, as well as an additional 134 internship grants, to support students from the consortium’s 24 Australian member universities to undertake study and internships in Indonesia in a wide range of disciplines including business and commerce, international relations, and development studies. The latest funding will also support the launch – in late 2017 and early 2018 – of two new ACICIS short-course study options in Indonesia: an Indonesian language short course program and a six-week professional practicum program for Australian law students.

In 2017 ACICIS will also receive a further $272,800 for the second year of multi-year projects announced in 2015 to assist 65 students to undertake ACICIS’ new programs in agriculture, public health, and creative arts and design.
