UWA internal student and staff content on the University’s Lecture Capture System , Echo 360, will now only be accessible to those with a Pheme account.  As the University’s Learning Management System, Blackboard , already requires a Pheme account, accessing recorded content through this system remains unchanged.

This change was implemented following a recent report to BI&TS that UWA lectures housed on the Lecture Capture System were able to be accessed by the public.

On investigation it appeared that the issue occurred as use of the Lecture Capture System expanded from its initial purpose of recording internal student lectures to also include public facing seminars and events that needed to be made available to the public. When accessing the recordings the system did not distinguish between students or staff and the general public, causing concern that UWA internal content could be accessed by members of the public.

To address this issue all current and future content will be marked as either public-facing which will remain available on the public domain, or as internal student or staff content which will be placed under Pheme lock.

When booking a recording on the Lecture Capture System staff will be prompted to select either public or internal use to ensure the appropriate controls are set.  Scheduled lecture captures are Pheme protected by default, please contact the elearning help desk to have these set for public use.
