The University of Western Australia and the Australian National University have become the first research institutions in Australasia to join IN-PART, a global university-industry collaboration platform.

Researchers at the universities will gain access to a community of thousands of research and development professionals and hundreds of businesses across the globe.

Associate Director of Innovation at UWA Simon Handford said the University was excited to be able part of the global idea-sharing research hub to exchange ideas and highlight the great work of Western Australian innovations.

“It gives us the opportunity to look further afield for development partners with particular expertise and routes to market,” Mr Handford said.

“Hopefully, IN-PART can help us meet future research and development partners and give more projects the chance of being translated into something that can be put to use”.

From the latest triple-negative breast cancer therapy and biomimetic coating for medical implants, to a metastructure for housing quantum systems, the technologies submitted by IN-PART’s first Australian universities have the potential to enhance lives across the world.

Professor Michael Cardew-Hall, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Innovation at ANU said the potential of the output from world leading research at Australian institutions was huge, but the limited industrial base meant it was essential to partner with corporate world leaders to realise that potential.

“ANU has strong links with many partner research institutions worldwide and strategic partnerships with major corporations,” he said.

“However, developing new partnerships that are mutually beneficial is a key strategy for the University.”

The UWA and ANU will join 70 universities from the UK, USA, Japan, and Europe - including Cambridge, Cornell, and King’s College London – which currently use IN-PART to publish innovation and expertise from academics actively looking to interact with industry.
