“The world needs inventors – great ones. You can be one. If you love what you do and are willing to do what it really takes, it’s within your reach”

Steve Wozniak

Steve Wozniak, one of the pioneers of personal computing is coming to Perth and UWA staff and students can access discounted tickets to the event.  Hosted by ICRAR Research Associate Professor Kevin Vinsen and sponsored by the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (ECM), Wozniak will discuss the wonders of innovation and invention.

As the inventor of the personal computer, and – along with Steve Jobs – the co-founder of Apple, Wozniak is a well-renowned philanthropist, motivational speaker and a champion for STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

As a young twentysomething, he worked as a Hewlett-Packard (HP) junior engineer, while fiddling with electronic gadgets as a hobby. On his nights off, Wozniak went on to build the revolutionary Apple I computer in his bedroom, released in April 1976.

Associate Professor Mark Reynolds, head of the UWA School of Computer Science and Software Engineering says as an entrepreneur, academic, and critic, Steve Wozniak has legendary status and continues to have great influence in computing, engineering and I.T.

“The event is a great opportunity for UWA and particularly for the students and associates of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics to learn from an expert in his field who has transformed the way that technology supports our lives.”

Staff are invited to purchase tickets here at a 10% discounted rate (use code: UWA) and look out for competitions and updates on the ECM Facebook page . The event is on Wednesday 24 August.
