The University of Western Australia (UWA) is proud to announce its sponsorship of ‘An Evening with Steve Wozniak’, one of the pioneers of personal computing, presented by Think Inc. on August 24 at HBF Stadium.

Through a partnership between the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research), UWA will gain exclusive access and offer exciting ticket packages to staff and students of the university.

At this outstanding event, Steve Wozniak (“Woz”) will discuss the wonders of innovation and invention, the importance of digital rights for humanity, and the art of a pleasure-driven work ethic.

As the inventor of the personal computer, and – along with Steve Jobs – the co-founder of Apple, Woz is also a well-renowned philanthropist, motivational speaker and a champion for STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

As a young twentysomething, Woz worked as a Hewlett-Packard (HP) junior engineer, while he fiddled with electronic gadgets as a hobby. On his nights off while working at HP, Woz went on to build the revolutionary Apple I computer in his bedroom, released in April 1976.

Presenters of the event, Think Inc., have set the stage for open discussion on topics or issues that are affecting today's society, in the hopes to generate opinions and ideas of the next generation’s influencers.

Desh Amila, founder and managing director of Think Inc. said, “For a man who has truly had a hand in shaping the world, ‘An Evening with Steve Wozniak’ will entertain, educate, and inspire anyone with ideas, and ideas for ideas.”

In the words of Woz himself, “The world needs inventors – great ones. You can be one. If you love what you do and are willing to do what it really takes, it’s within your reach”.

Associate Professor Mark Reynolds, head of the UWA School of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) said “As an entrepreneur, academic, and critic, Steve Wozniak has legendary status and continues to have great influence in computing, engineering and I.T. The event is a great opportunity for UWA and particularly for the students and associates of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics to learn from an expert in his field who has transformed the way that technology supports our lives.”

UWA’s sponsorship agreement comes with some prime benefits, including a meet and greet, a 15 minute recorded interview opportunity with Steve Wozniak, complimentary passes for 20 nominated UWA staff and exclusive discounted ticket rates for staff, students and friends.
