We are excited to announce that our 2016 Sports Bursaries for outstanding student athletes have been selected and send our Congratulations to the following students!

UWA Sport this year offered bursaries such as Convocation, Club Sports, Indigenous Athletes, Leadership, and various other categories of achievement.

One of this year’s bursaries recipients has had to overcome more than most people, to get where he is today and we would especially like to congratulate him on his efforts.  Once told he would never be able to walk, let alone run again Zac Leow has been awarded the General Managers Choice Award bursary for his achievements and his unwavering drive throughout his sporting career.

A competitive runner, in both 400m and 1500m events, Zac has qualified for the Para World Championships London 2017, Zac won second place at the ASEAN Para Games in 2015, and competed in several Singapore Para Games earning high accolades in all his events.

Following a near fatal accident in 2013, doctors deemed him paralysed and told him he would be unable to walk or run again. His drive however never faulted and as soon as he was able to run again, he was back training with long-time coach and friend Grant Landers. Training six or seven days a week, and studying a Doctor of Philosophy in exercise we couldn’t be happier than to award Zac with this honour.
