The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics recently hosted its annual Faculty Prizes Breakfast to honour the brightest students for their academic achievements in the 2015 academic year.

The event celebrates the hard work and exceptional achievements of talented students and provides the opportunity for prize winners to meet with donors and special guests.

Faculty Medal winner and J A Wood Memorial Prize nominee, Calum Braham, addressed the audience to thank everyone involved, and speak of the importance of exploring everything UWA has to offer.

“Studying here at UWA in the last few years has been a great time in my life,” said Calum.

“I’ve learnt a lot from some very dedicated staff, and as I’m sure you have heard many times, the content of your degree is only the start of what you can get out of your time at UWA.

Although your time here is formally one in which to be learning specific skills, what it is really about is building upon everything you’ve become up to this point, giving you the opportunity to meet some great people, and equipping you to continue learning into the future.

One of the best parts of my time here has certainly been the wide variety of people whom I’ve had the chance to meet and learn from.”

Faculty Dean, Professor John Dell, offered his congratulations to the prize winners and recognised the valuable role of donors.

“Without the continued and generous support of our donors, this event would not be possible and we thank them sincerely for their contribution,” said Professor Dell.

“Your involvement in this important part of the Faculty’s activities provides encouragement and motivation for our students to excel in their studies and become leaders of the future.”

UWA engineering alumnus, Tri Suseno, previous prize winner and Clough Scholar, gave an inspirational account of his industry experiences and the value of his continued relationship with UWA.

Some 67 individual prizes were awarded to students from more than 30 donors. The Faculty would like to thank the generous prize donors for their support and congratulate all of the prize recipients.
