The University was recently recognised for its water conservation efforts when it received an award as part of the Water Corporation’s Water Efficiency Management Plan program.

The award recognises the efforts made by UWA in achieving an improvement in water efficiency of 10 per cent or greater during the 2014-15 financial year.

In 2015, the University achieved a 10 per cent saving in total water use (or a 5 per cent saving in water use per equivalent full-time staff and student) from 2014 levels. This equates to approximately 28 000kL or $60 000 in savings.

The award is a reflection of the commitment of staff and students towards water conservation, as well as the University’s pro-active stance towards identifying and implementing water saving initiatives.

Initiatives undertaken by Campus Management to conserve water includes the measurement of water flow rates in all hand basins in toilets (which was done as part of the Building Performance Audits on the Crawley campus) and subsequent modification of tap fittings with excessive flows; the replacement of cooling towers at the Central Plant Facility with more water efficient equipment; ensuring all irrigation water supply was converted to groundwater, and the re-use of stormwater and waste water from deionised water plants for irrigation at the Glasshouses.

To further ensure we all play our part in saving water, Campus Management appreciates your on-going assistance to identify and report leaking or faulty fittings in toilets, laboratories and kitchens. You can report service faults via the online service request form
