Refurbishment of the ground-floor is in full swing, with services prelay expected to be completed over the next two weeks and the new communications room commissioned. Minor defects are being rectified in the archives with staff anticipated to move from Monday 4 April.

There will be disruption for users of the workstations on the first-floor for the next two weeks. Desks will be shifted and a start made of the roll out of communication and power to connect workstations to the new communications room on the ground-floor. The data cutover will start on Monday 4 April and be completed by Tuesday 19 April. Outages will occur in blocks to minimise the impact on staff and students.

From Friday 8 to Sunday 10 April, and Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 April, the bulk of the first-floor will be inaccessible to staff or students. Hoarding will be installed and signage placed.  The entrance on the first-floor will continue to provide access to the second and third-floor via the stairwell/ lift and to the service point, high demand collection on the first-floor. The rest of the first-floor (workstations and the group and single study areas, toilets) will be closed.

Works planned to occur: 4 April - 17 April (two-week look ahead)

Activities occurring:

  • Interruptions to most services on the first-floor over this fortnight
  • Workstation cut over to level one will commence (4 April)
  • First-floor not accessible except for high demand and service desk (8-10 April)
  • Power shutdown on first-floor including no access to first-floor, except for high demand and service desk (16-17 April)
  • Occupation of archives in new location
  • Intermittent drilling noise for installation of cable trays, ductwork and other fixtures
  • Potential sewer works occurring pending assessment
  • Ongoing services installation
  • Ongoing general refurbishment works ground-floor

What to expect/how this may impact you

Other arrangements must be made while the first-floor services are rearranged.

Intermittent drilling noise in the slab for installation of mechanical and electrical services on the ground and first-floor.

Toilets may be temporarily shut down whilst sewerage works are being undertaken. The shutdown will occur for no longer than one day. Date of shut down will be announced shortly.


UPDATE week commencing Monday 21 March 2016

  • Data outages from 17-23 March on second and third floors

  • Ground-floor refurbishment ongoing

Communication cutover has commenced and will interrupt data on the second and third floors in the study carrels and work stations. Outages will occur for 20-30 outlets at a time. Wireless access will still be available throughout the works.

Refurbishment of the ground-floor is in full swing. The sub-floor hydraulics are complete, the majority of partitioning now installed and ductwork installation to commence this week. Blinds will be installed on the second-floor. The refurbishment of the Archives is completed with installation of the compactus and training to staff scheduled this week.

  • Data outage 17 and 18 March (third-floor)
  • Data outage 18 to 23 March (second-floor)
  • Occupation of Archives in new location
  • Concrete reinstatement (pouring new concrete from 23 March)
  • Intermittent drilling noise for installation of cable trays, ductwork and other fixtures
  • Ongoing services installation. Ongoing rectification of defects
  • Ongoing general refurbishment works ground floor
  • Easter break – Friday 25 to Monday 28 March inclusive

What to expect/how this may impact you

Intermittent drilling noise in the slab for installation of mechanical and electrical services and partitioning on the ground-floor.

Rolling cutover of communications cables commence this week and the work will be done in stages, with notice of disruption given as early as possible.

You may experience burning smells due to the welding of the reo bars on the ground-floor. We will try and keep as much fresh air intake as possible, but smells may still be noticeable.
