The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics’ Master of Professional Engineering: Chemical Engineering specialisation has received full accreditation from the Institution of Chemical Engineering (IChemE), the peak body representing chemical engineering education and training, for a five year period.

IChemE is active in developing and raising standards in chemical engineering education and training worldwide through their accreditation programme. Accreditation of an academic programme involves the detailed assessment of learning outcomes against IChemE internationally recognised standards.

As part of its application for accreditation, a panel of representatives from IChemE visited the Faculty’s School of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering in late November 2015 to assess the teaching and learning spaces, research laboratory facilities and student interactions.

“I am extremely pleased that the Faculty’s Chemical Engineering specialisation has received this professional accreditation. We have invested significantly in ensuring students have a high quality experience during their studies and we attract some of the best teachers and academics in the profession from around the world,” said Professor John Dell, the Faculty’s Dean.

Professor Dell said the Faculty’s Chemical Engineering specialisation course is attractive to students and employers, with strong links to industry.

“Studying an IChemE accredited degree gives students the peace of mind that they are studying a course rated amongst the best in the world, gaining an in-depth understanding of topics that will be important for the professionals of the future, wherever they are based in the world.”

Accredited degrees help provide graduates with a pathway to qualification as a Chartered Chemical Engineer (MIChemE) and recognition as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council.

IChemE aims to recognise and share best practice in the tertiary education of Chemical Engineers, and promotes innovation in course design and delivery. Once accredited, universities around the world must renew their accreditation every three years.
