In honour of its former Co-Director, the Marshall Centre for Infectious Diseases Research and Training has established the Geoff Shellam Memorial Prize in Infectious Diseases at UWA.

The annual prize will be awarded to the student who obtains the highest weighted average mark in the Masters in Infectious Diseases and will be awarded at the Prize Giving Ceremony held at UWA at the beginning of each academic year.

Professor Shellam was well respected internationally for his significant work in infectious diseases, microbiology and pathology. The Memorial Prize acknowledges Professor Shellam’s passion for basic research and tertiary education. He was a strong advocate for the Masters of Infectious Diseases program, allowing students from all over the word to study at UWA with the aim of equipping them to contribute to the international understanding and management of existing and emerging infectious diseases. His ‘open door’ policy ensured a personal connection with every Masters student enrolled in the program.
