Dear colleagues,

As you would know, SURF (Students' Unit Reflective Feedback) is the evaluation instrument used by the University to gather feedback on students’ educational experiences in their units. Since 2013, SURF scores have been available to all staff and students for viewing and more recently it has been possible for students to add qualitative comments about each unit.

I am extremely pleased to share with you that at the University level, the SURF scores from 2015 are the highest recorded since 2005.

This is a significant achievement only made possible by the focused efforts of many individuals across the University, including our teaching staff, unit coordinators and tutors.

This year’s report on SURF survey results (which includes data from 2011 to 2015) shows the upward trend in SURF over recent years and I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their ongoing work to improve our students’ experience in their coursework units.  Feedback from our current students, facilitated via the Student Guild, indicates that our students place high value on the transparency of being able to access results and on the continued commitment from the University to acting on their input.

The positive feedback on teaching at UWA should, in due course, be reflected in externally-managed surveys such as the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) and the International Student Barometer (ISB).  These surveys are key instruments used by both domestic and international students when selecting a University.

Thankyou again and kind regards,

Alec Cameron
