More than 100 aspiring yogis descended on UWA’s Riley Oval on Saturday to take part in the free community yoga class!

Yoga on the Grass has grown beyond expectations with the free Saturday classes growing in strength from 60 in the first week to more than 100 participants by the third session. The ever increasing numbers in this on-campus, community orientated class shows that word is getting around of the benefits to mind, body and soul through living a holistic lifestyle and starting the weekend off with yoga.

“It is amazing that these classes have struck such a cord with the community of UWA and the community at large – what a cool initiative!” one participant was overheard saying.

The sessions are led by qualified yoga teachers who will vary the style of yoga from week to week, allowing participants to experience the full range of techniques and benefits yoga offers.

“No matter your age or physical condition, everyone can benefit from improved health and wellbeing through yoga, and that is why it is a focus for us here at UWA Sport,” says program coordinator Moira O’Brien-Smith. “We are excited to have had so many participants come down and contribute to cultivating this great sense of community with such a positive atmosphere.”

UWA Sport will continue to offer these free community yoga classes every Saturday from 8-9am on Riley Oval. The class is open to everyone; students; staff; alumni and the general community to join in, just bring a mat, plenty of water and a enjoy the serenity of outdoor yoga. The University Club of Western Australia welcomes participants for breakfast and/or coffee after class, for table reservations call 6488 4805.
