In response to your feedback, the University Library is making a change to provide more flexible study spaces for students on campus.

Library users are now able to enjoy studying with sustenance in the UWA libraries, in accordance with a new library policy on food and drink.

Our aim is to provide an environment suitable for learning and research balanced with the needs of students.

Students have told us that they would like to be able to eat and drink when they need to do a long study session in the library, in order to refuel and maximise their study time.

The Library has widely engaged in consultation with the Guild, student representatives, cleaning staff and the University in considering the impacts of this change. A pilot was undertaken in Reid Library in November 2015.

Messy and odorous foods will be permitted only in the cafes and café terraces in Reid Library and Barry J Marshall Library. All drinks should be covered and alcohol is not permitted in the Library. No food or drink will be permitted in Special Collections.

Library users will appreciate the need to keep the library clean and comfortable for others. General and recycling bins can be found in all libraries and cleaning products will be available from library staff if required.

In Semester 1, 2016 we will pilot a new SMS alert service PAM (Please Assist Me) , which will enable library users to contact staff without leaving their study space. This service will be available for library users to report any issues with their study spaces.

Questions should be directed to AskUWA .
