The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade International Relations Grant Program (IRGP) supports the Government's foreign policies and economic diplomacy interests and projects a positive contemporary image of Australia. IRGP grants support professional, community and institutional linkages between Australia and its partners on contemporary issues of shared interest including business, education, the arts, media, science, technology and sport.

A range of IRGP initiatives have recently opened, or will open shortly, and applications are encouraged from all staff. Here are a few key points to keep in mind if you would like to apply:

  1. Funding ranges from approximately from $10,000 - $40,000 per year, for up to three years;
  2. Co-funding from partners outside UWA is strongly encouraged;
  3. Proposals for small scale research collaborations, including exchange visits, fora and/or workshops are eligible and encouraged.

As most of these initiatives have a limit of 3 applications per institution, UWA will be running an internal EoI process, with due dates and details indicated below. Please note:

  1. The Australia-ASEAN initiative requires applicants to contact the respective country Australian Government diplomatic mission(s) to determine if the proposal fits into its priorities. Please do so before submitting an EoI to UWA.  Bilateral Australia-Indonesian programs should be submitted through the Australia-Indonesia Institute.
  2. UWA EoIs will be reviewed by a panel and results provided back to applicants in a timely manner to enable development of a full proposal.
  3. All (approved) applications can be submitted online to DFAT via the Smartygrants system. To get a general sense of what is expected, a static template can be found here . However, individual programs have slightly differing priorities and requirements.
