UPDATE 8 February 2016 : Due to the high temperatures forecasted this week, there will be localised interruptions to air-conditioning across the campus.

The University, like many other large organisations in Western Australia, has an agreement with Western Power to help manage peak demand for electricity. During extreme weather conditions, the University could be asked, at short notice, to reduce its electricity consumption.  The arrangement is described as load shedding.

On very hot days, this often means that services such as air-conditioners will be reduced for a specified period of time, usually in the afternoon. This is to ensure supply of power to critical buildings and equipment is maintained.

When will I be notified?
Generally, Western Power will provide a warning up to 2 days ahead of time that load shedding may be necessary. However, on the actual day the University will receive 2 hours’ notice to reduce its electricity consumption. Campus Management will endeavour to advise staff by email when the load shedding, and consequently reduced levels of air-conditioning will be activated.

What do I need to do?
On extremely hot days, try to minimise your power usage by switching off unnecessary electrical equipment, including lighting. Monitor your emails for information about possible outages and planned reductions to electricity consumption.

The Campus Management team regrets any inconvenience arising from load shedding. Should you require any further information or support please email [email protected] or call extension 2025.
