Nicholas Mayhew, a well-respected and popular member of the BI&TS team, passed away on the evening of Sunday 13 December.

Nicholas started at UWA fifteen years ago as a system administrator in the Reid Library. He then moved to Business & Information Technology Services to become a core member of the Linux administration team. A skilled senior administrator, Nicholas was responsible for key systems including the lecture recording system.

Colleagues remembered Nicholas as a personable, valued team-member who was always looking on the bright side. He loved to laugh and was the “social leader” of his team, taking it upon himself to organise regular team lunches and get togethers. Often outspoken, Nicholas had a strong sense of social justice and fairness. He had genuine concern that his fellow staff were being treated fairly and well.

“Nicholas was a very well-respected colleague, known for his hard work and leadership on critical projects,” said Chief Information Officer Assine George. “His passing comes as a terrible shock to everyone in BI&TS. I’m sure I speak for all our team when I say that Nicholas will be missed beyond measure.”

“Our deepest condolences go out to Nicholas’ colleagues, friends and family – particularly his wife, Kim, and children Neve and Blake,” she said.
