An audience of picnickers will gather on the lawns of The University of Western Australia’s Whitfeld Court next week to enjoy a feast of music and song featuring some of Australia’s most accomplished musicians.

The first UWA Annual Christmas Concert will be performed against the backdrop of Winthrop Hall on the evening of Tuesday 22 December.  It’s the School of Music’s gift to the community – and you’re invited!

“We have such a wealth of talent on campus, so we are marking the festive season by bringing together some of our best performers – both teachers and students – for this Christmas Concert. It’s a first for UWA, but we’re hoping it becomes a tradition because we know people love coming on campus during summer evenings,” says opera performer Andrew Foote, who heads the School of Music’s Vocal Studies program.

Led by pianist Caroline Badnall, the University’s musicians will offer a wonderful mix of festive holiday music, including a selection of traditional Christmas Carols. The concert will also mark the performance debut of UWA’s new staff choir.

The line-up of talent includes pianist Caroline Badnall, mezzo-soprano Sarah-Janet Brittenden, Fletcher Cox (trumpet), baritone Andrew Foote, Rebecca Glorie (violin), Alan Lourens (euphonium), soprano Sara Macliver, Ashley Smith (clarinet), the UWA Vocal Consort and the UWA Staff Choir.

Picnickers are invited to arrive at 5.30pm on the evening of Tuesday, 22 December. The concert will end at 7.30pm. Picnickers are advised that the concert will finish in plenty of time for those who wish to attend the film at the Somerville outdoor theatre.
