Two of our colleagues, Mark Shelton and John van Bockxmeer, have been nominated for the people’s choice award in the WA Business News 40under40 competition.

21-year-old Mark Shelton is the Founder and CEO of Bloom, a not-for-profit organisation that provides thousands of young Western Australians with encouragement, support and infrastructure to grow their ideas into successful ventures. Mark founded Bloom in 2013 at 18 in his spare time and balances Bloom with full-time study at UWA. Bloom has rapidly grown and in 2015, its workshops and seminars attracted 2,500 attendees and its co-working space supported 50 entrepreneurs. Mark is also a Director of StartupWA, an advocacy body representing the start-up community.

UWA alumni, John van Bockxmeer inspires healthier communities for all Australians. He has lead numerous local, national and international initiatives in the fields of medicine and community development. Working as a remote emergency doctor John believes in health equality. His positive tenacious solutions-focused mindset has seen him foster innovative solutions to complex social problems. He leads Fair Game, a volunteer organisation turning unused recycled sports equipment into the tools for change across remote and urban communities. John’s vision, focus, innovation, contribution and commitment has inspired a new generation of young professionals passionate about social change.

The 40under40 awards recognises not only personal determination and commercial drive, but also the philanthropic pursuits that balance these young individuals' professional achievements, recognising the less public contributions to the welfare of Western Australia.
