Talented young music students are invited to apply for The University of Western Australia's Summer Music Academy from December 7 to 11.

The residential music camp is a partnership between UWA's School of Music and St George's College and aims to bring together young musicians from around Australia and overseas for a week of intensive music training and fun under the direction of some of Western Australia's finest musicians, conductors and educators.

The academy is open to secondary school and tertiary students aged 15 to 25, although younger students may attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Students stay at St George's College and take part in a full daily musical schedule with social activities at night including dancing, percussion, formal dinner and barbecue on the last night.

The minimum standard is AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent on a chosen instrument and auditions may be held to allocate students to appropriate ensembles.

The $800 cost includes all tuition and musical activities, five nights' accommodation, all meals and social activities. Scholarships of $200 are available to students who demonstrate financial need.
