In Melbourne last night a spotlight was shone on the longstanding partnership between The University of Western Australia and Woodside when The Energy and Minerals Institute were announced a winner at the Business /Higher Education Round Table (BHERT) Awards.

At the high profile event, EMI was awarded the 2015 Ashley Goldsworthy Award for Sustained Collaboration between Business and Tertiary Education, after the Institute has continued to foster and enhance the UWA relationship with Australia’s global oil and gas company. The Award is named after the founding Director of BHERT and a record number of nominations were received this year, the 25th year since BHERT was established.

Mark Stickells, EMI Director and Jill Stajduhar, EMI Associate Director and UWA Woodside Company Relationship Manager, were at the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of The University of Western Australia and were thrilled about the announcement.

“We thank Woodside for continued support – the company’s focus on technology and innovation has long been supported by UWA - we both tackle global challenges facing the energy industry and work to benefit the communities we serve.

“As a research intensive University, UWA’s expertise fosters innovation for commercial application and supports educational development to meet the demands of a dynamic and challenging industry environment.  We thank UWA’s community of researchers and educators for their commitment to leading this innovative drive to safe, sustainable energy for the world.

“Lastly, I thank the EMI and UWA staff for their central role in navigating the complex area that we work within and for the real impact of their work – accepting this award on their behalf was an honour,” said Mr Stickells.

The relationship between Woodside and UWA began over 30 years ago, before the establishment of the North West Shelf operations and continues to develop and strengthen.  It has delivered outstanding benefits to UWA, Woodside and Australia’s energy industry through increased research capability and capacity, ground-breaking innovation and technology, attracting global graduate and post-graduate students and access to internationally renowned scholars and academics.

As partners, Woodside and UWA are continuing to raise the international profile and reputation of  Western Australia, The University of Western Australia and Australia’s energy industry.
