Dear Colleagues

The UWA Crowd Research initiative (see https://crowdresearch.uwa.edu.au/ ) continues to gather momentum with the launch of four new projects on the back of some great successes, including most recently $20,323 raised towards a Pigmy Hippo reproductive study (goal was $15,000) and recruiting 560 adult volunteers in a study to investigate how narcissism manifest in adults (target was 200).

I would like to draw your attention to the four new projects in the hope that the UWA community can help promote these through your own networks:

  1. Your voice, Your story – a study seeking 100 adult volunteers to record their conversations with family and friends to better understand what defines Western Australian English – details at https://crowdresearch.uwa.edu.au/project/your-voice-your-story-english-in-western-australia/
  2. Homeward Bound – A fundraising project to support four UWA female staff and students (Sandra Kerbler, Ghislaine Platell, Dr Amanda Blythe and A/Prof Melinda Fitzgerald) to join an expedition to Antarctica with other women scientists in a world-class leadership and strategy program – details at https://chuffed.org/project/homeward-bound-empowering-women-for-a-more-sustainable-future . We have already raised $5,490 for this project towards a goal of $20,000
  3. Repelling Sharks – A fundraising project to explore a variety of methods to deter or repel sharks based on their sensory stimuli to positively change their behaviour – details at https://www.chuffed.org/project/repelling-sharks-to-protect-themand-us . The target funding is $15,000.
  4. Colour discrimination – A fundraising project to determine whether there are situations when colour-blind men have an advantage over men with full colour vision – details at https://chuffed.org/project/colour-discrimination . The target funding for this project is $10,000.

I am happy to field any questions about the UWA Crowd Research initiative and look forward to your participation.

Kind regards

Campbell Thompson
