Top Korean dance and music groups will headline a ‘The Rhythm of Korea’ Concert at a one-off performance at The University of Western Australia’s Octagon Theatre on Thursday 15 October.

Acts including traditional percussion group U-So and street dance team Unlike Harmony Crew , who have won wide international recognition for their work, will take the stage as part of the opening event of the 2015 Korea Festival in Australia and New Zealand.

Deputy Head of UWA’s School of Social Sciences Dr Joanna Elfving-Hwang said the concert, presented by the Korea Foundation and The University, will present an excellent insight into Korea’s rich heritage and will highlight the customs of the modern East Asian nation.

“A program of selected arts, cultural, dance and music performances will support the headliners, showcasing Korea’s music and dance at the intersection of traditional and contemporary performances,” she said.

“The links between Western Australia and its third largest trading partner have grown steadily in recent years and the annual Korea Festival enhances this strong relationship. In 2014, the value of this growing trading relationship exceeded $10billion in exports.”

Dr Elfving-Hwang said UWA, which now offers a Bachelor of the Arts in Korean Studies, plays an important role in enhancing Australia’s relationship with Korea through its research engagements and active promotion of Korean language education and cultural studies.

The high-energy performance on 15 October, which kicks off at 7.30pm, is suitable for all audiences with tickets now on sale through the TicketsWA website .

Free parking for the Octagon Theatre Concert will be available both on the UWA Campus and on the adjacent Hackett Drive.
