In the final day of competition at the Australian University Games, UWA teams were well represented in the finals.

UWA has achieved four pennants/team gold medals at the Australian University Games on the Gold Coast: Men’s Australian Rules football , women’s golf team event , open sailing and men’s team judo . UWA was also awarded the Spirit of the Games trophy for outstanding behaviour and sportsmanship on and off the field as voted by other universities, officials and competition managers. Aside from the string of pennants, numerous team and individual medals including gold, silver and bronze, were awarded to outstanding UWA student athletes. A big day and a big finish for the men’s Australian Rules football team winning their gold medal match against Melbourne University with a three goal margin. This annual clash of the footy titans between UWA and Melbourne has seen UWA win gold in 3 out of the last 5 consecutive years, narrowly missing out on the win in Sydney in 2014.

The men’s hockey team were in a tough battle for bronze against Melbourne University, with the game forced into extra when the score was 1-all. Both teams were reduced to 7 players during extra time, with Melbourne University managing to score another goal with 3 minutes of extra time remaining on the clock. UWA was not able to find an equaliser and Melbourne Uni walked away with the division 1 bronze. Green and Gold medals were awarded to 3 UWA men’s and 1 women's team members.

Congratulations to the women’s tennis team who made it all the way to the finals. Unfortunately they lost to the University of Queensland 5-0 but put up a gallant fight.

The futsal teams also finished strong with the girls claiming bronze and the guys team losing their bronze playoff and claiming 4th position.

UWA's men’s and women’s squash both won the bronze matches, the men’s against AU 18-10 and the women won 19-9 against Melbourne University.
